Remix 33 –Basstown Edition

DJ Die Young and Choyce Hacks! — Great Scott

Bigs ups to the Basstown crew for an awesome weekend in Boston. Music was spot on, every one was friendly as hell and the Boston kids were dancing their asses off everywhere I looked. So, to celebrate in true Resonator Fasion, here’s pretty much my whole set from Saturday in remix format.

Enur Ft Natasha - “Calabria 2007 (Hatchmatik Clubabria Remix)”

I’ve loved this track since I first heard it and, given the style Die Young was throwing down, I thought this to be a quite fitting opening track. Crowd seemed to appreciate it a ton.

Grizz Le Beast - “Rock It Out (UNK vs. Phunk-a-Delic)”

Something I snagged from the old Chazology blog a while ago; this track is getting some love again recently and I decided to test it out on the dancefloor. The result? Still fresh as fuck.

RUN DMC - My Adidas (Pilotpriest Remix).mp3
Links: Pilotpriest
One of the dopest remixes in recent months, this track has killed dancefloors comprising of two completely different types of crowds. I snagged this from KissAtlanta but they appear to have taken it down and, since its no longer posted anywhere else, I’m not gonna post it up here again. Sorry kids. You should take the time to stream it from Pilotpriest’s myspace though.. its a killer.

Three 6 Mafia - “Stay Fly (D & G remix)”
Links: D&G
Some random dude dancing his ass off with a custom shirts for the night asked if I had any Three 6 Mafia. Normally I’m not one to pander to requests at deejay nights, but I happened to have this remix that’s been chilling in my collection for almost a year now. I think i’ve posted it before, but its ravey as fuck and I don’t think anyone had any issues with it.

Juiceboxxxx - “Sweat (Blanche DuBois Remix)”

I’m sure you remember the original of this.. it was a catchy and dancy blog smash hit over the summer. Well this remix notches up the funkiness a level to absolute can’t-help-but-get-down-on-the-dance-floor levels and I can’t get enough of it. Figured this would work really well as a transition into the more electro-styled tracks I wanted to drop. Pretty sure the crowd dug this as well, but I was too busy jumping around like an idiot to tell, honestly.

The Touch - “Heart Of The City (Stuffa Remix)”

Really solid track. Not a banger like the ones I have later, but it fit perfectly as a transition into more throw-your-hands-in-the-air material. Plus looping the ending provides a perfect transition into..

Robyn - “Be Mine (Ocelot Mthrfckrs Remix)”
LINKS: OcelotMTHRFCKRS | Robyn
Best. Remix. Evar. Or at least within the recent memory. I’d been saving this one for a while and wanted to use it to highlight a live set with a crowd rather than one of my radio sets (sorry guys!). Damn did people love this. Ocelot never disappoints.

Xinobi - “BMX (Moulinex Remix)”
LINKS: Xinobi | Moulenx | Disco Texas
A staple of mine at this point. Its starts off so unassuming and then just kicks it up into high gear. Perfect track to keep up the energy coming out of Robyn’s driving vocals.

Muscles - One Inch Badge Pin (Vanshe Tech City Gym Remix)”
Links: Muscles | Muscles Music | Vanshe Tech | More Muscles | More Vanshe Tech
Older remix but still solid. I had just heard the Shizam remix of “Sweaty” earlier in the week and couldn’t get Muscles out of my head. Didn’t want to play that Shizam remix here (didn’t think it was the right flow) and this one fit right into the throw your hands up mentality I had going.

Daft Punk - “Da Funk (Thunderous Olympians This Funk Is Broken Edit)”

Little bit of a change of pace. Should have gone with something else here in retrospect, but I thought the crowd could use a little funkiness after a few bangers in a row.

Hollywood Holt - “Caked Up (Klever remix)”
Links: Hollywood Holt | Klever | More From Hollywood Holt
I’m a huge fan of Hollywood Holt and wanted to try this remix out on a crowd. I think it would have gone over better if more people knew who he was, but dancing was still going strong.

??? - “Rocky Theme”

Random cut from the first Flamin Hotz EP. Saw that my time was up so I figured I throw in a little something different/kinda cheesy.

And that’s that kids. Enjoy!

Secondly, Remix!

One of the problems with me only really posting on Fridays is that when I get the hook up on a track, and then sit in it till Friday, people tend to post it up before me. Case and point: The VanShe Tech mix of Feist’s 1234. I came across this yesterday morning, sat on it, and now 4 different blogs have already posted it… ah well. Check it out from one of them, its a good listen.

Here’s a different VanShe Tech remix to make up for it:

Muscles - “One Inch Badge Pin (VanShe Tech City Gym Remix)”

Not only is it a VanShe Tech remix, but its of Muscles! (we <3 muscles).

Purchase the 12" from Juno or TurnTable Lab

Ok, that’s all for this. Have to get back to work.

Super 13 Remix Friday!

It’s our 13th week doing the remix thing Hacks does for “shits and wiggles” (that is to get you shaking on the dance floor… not something grosser) and it’s also Friday the 13th! How awesome! Unfortunately, unlucky 13 hit our beloved Hacks earlier this week and his laptop was stolen so he asked me to helm this week. I hope that I can do half as good a job as he does bringing you the stuff to make you move (again, your butt, not your bowels).

Anyway…

Our boys The Presets have put out a little more than an EP, little less than an LP collection of remixes from the smashing Beams. It’s called, perhaps predictably but still cutely, Re-Sets. My favorite from it, probably unsurprisingly, is the Van She remix of “Are You the One?” It turns the relentless bassline of the original into an unexpected wall of feedback guitars.

Are You the One (Van She Remix) — The Presets

Are you sick of Justice vs. Simian yet? Yeah? WELL TOUGH. DJ Hell has done a great version for Gigolo (now there are two names we haven’t heard in ages) that funks out the bassline, strips down the vocals, and sexes up the whole thing with a haunted house harpsichord line that makes me want to listen to this song all over again.

Never Be Alone (DJ Hell Remix) — Justice vs. Simian

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Speaking of Simian, the Mobile Disco’s “Beat” has gotten a pleasantly heavy on the highs treatment by a bunch of upstart kids… The Teenagers, to be exact. Take this one for the ride home from the club… Still upbeat, but pretty enough to chill you out for sleep.

Next up is a match made in absolute heaven: Sebastian takes the wheel for a remix of Kavinsky’s “Testarossa Overdrive” that makes me wish I had a sleek black sportscar that would talk to me (or at least get up to 160 mph on a dark, winding highway). This one is just begging for a good car stereo and a heavy foot on the gas pedal.

Next is Granny D reminding you that Sweden is still the best place on earth for music with the rushiest, blissed out trance tune I’ve heard in a long time… And it just happens to be a remix of our darling Justin Timberlake! I’d kill to hear this one with my eyes closed under flashing lights in a fog filled room (TAKE NOTE, Studio B DJs!). Granny D’s got a few more up on MySpace as well as the funniest MySpace name EVER.

My Love (Granny D Loves Steve and Sebastian Remix) — Justin Timberlake

Here’s the Granny’s 30 minute full-length– mostly gems, with a couple of unfortunate cheese tracks at the end, but still a good time and worth a listen.

And with that… I’ll just remind everyone that the Klaxons will be at the B (as the cool kids are calling it) tonight– and here’s their damn convincing take on “My Love.” See you on the dance floor!

Remix Friday Week 8!

Damn, I’ve been doing this for almost 2 months now and every week I’ve still got more thatI want to post. Anyway, this week I’ve got a few interesting remix to share. I had picked out like 5 or 6 but, as usual, I’m running out of time due to work (yay software development schedules. . .)

First off, another fantastic remix from Van She Tech:
Riot In Belgium - La Musique(Van She Tech Remix)

I was informed this is NOT a vanshe tech remix. Check out the update here

The original (linked below) is a synthy rumbling dance floor driven track that stands up well enough on its own. The lyrics overriding the chorus help drive this into a arms-pumping dancefloor anthem. Van She Tech takes all of this, and then ups the ante. Smoothing out some of the constant rumble with a crisp, solid bass beat, it immediately gets your head nodding. From there it’s only more lushness and chopped/screwed vocals –bringing this from dancefloor churner to full-on mass frenzy.

Visit Riot in Belgium on the web:

Visit Van She Tech on MySpace if you haven’t yet.

Next up we’ve got a remix that should destroy the amazingness of the original, but yet turns out to be a really solid effort and change of pace.

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye (Curtis Vodka Edit)

Curtis Vodka

You may have remembered our love for Silversun Pickups and, upon first seeing Curtis Vodka had remixed this, I had total mixed thoughts. His normal style is krunk and glitchy; sacrificing pretty for the nasty wamp wamp. I love both Silversun Pickup albums and the almost-drone melodic sound contained within them and had no idea what Curtis would do with it.

Its amazing; I was totally blown away.

That’s what I get for pre-judging someone I guess. Hype Machine has a bunch of Curtis’ other remixes if you want to check him out in some more detail. I’m actually a fan of most of his remixes, so if you’re bored on this Friday, dig around and check some out.

That’s all for me kids. Have work to finish and a house party to prep for and throw.

Friday Remixes (Now on Friday)!

The first track I’m going to post comes via Big Stereo and its a banger.

Van She Tech

Vanshe Technologic has been destroying the scene recently with some killer dance floor remixes (check out the collaboration they did with Utah Saints… yes, the UTAH SAINTS) and I’ve been loving every minute of it. They describe themselves as

the electirc love children of the shoegaze epic Van She. Vanshe’s Tech, are, two girls who work closely with 2 of the band members of the band in order to create powerful and elegant, wacked out remixes from other peoples music for your dancing pleasure.

Sneaky Soundsystem - “UFO (Van She Tech Mix)”

Yeah, I’m in love.

Next up I’ve got a Nightmoves remix for you (you may remember the “Sex City” remix of theirs I posted). Not as much of a banger, but more of a slowly rolling 7 min long almost old skool house epic. This would work really well to help break the top off of a longer progressive type set (if anyone even does those anymore). At about 3:00 mins in, the track starts to get really sick.

Bent - “Waiting For You (Nightmoves Mix)”

Next up, another David E. Sugar remix. I posted up sebatiAn’s remixes of “Golden Skans” in a previous edition, but this takes it in a totally different direction. David offers his really cool 8-bit-dirty-gritty sound in every remix of his I’ve heard –this being no exception. You’ll know whether you’ll like this remix or not within the first 4 bass hits. While the other remixes of “Golden Skans” may be “prettier” this is, by far, more dance floor material.

Klaxons - “Golden Skans (David E. Sugar remix)”

Be sure and check out David’s MySpace and say hi.

One more for good measure:

M.I.A. - “XR2 (Tigerstyle remix)”

That’s it for me; have a good weekend!
