Ok, so you guys know the Black Ghosts right? The other 1/2 of the post-simian world domination plan? I’m sure you do.. I’ve posted enough by them over the past months. Well they’ve just had their new Any Way You Choose To Give EP drop over @ I Am Sound and its a banger. So to celebrate, here’s some remixes and a tasty little Halloween b-side treat for you.

The Black Ghosts - “Any Way You Choose To Give It (Acoustic Version)”

“Am I Too Late” didn’t quite make the cut for the EP, but its a chopped up little rock mets electronic riffs track that is quite solid on its own.

Remix Week 16: Now With Free Shit.

I have 2 cds to give away for this remix column… so keep reading!

Ok, we here at Resonator have this weird love-hate thing with Tommie Sunshine. See he used to party it up in the same circuit we ran in here in Atlanta back in the good ole’ rave days so we have been familiar with him since “way back when”, if you will. He’s done some really spot on remixes of tracks, bringing “dance music” to the indie rock masses and he’s made some guilty pleasures that we wish we didn’t like, but can’t help but love.

Tommie Sunshine

The last time Shaun and I deejayed together, we dropped his remix of Fall Out Boy’s “Dance Dance” to a room-full of indie kids. They loved the first half where we looped the intro for like 3 mins, but once the vocal hit and they realized they where dancing to the F.O.B., well they cleared the room faster than jungle kids do when the hear “this is the police!”. Man that was fun.

Fall Out Boy - “Dance Dance (Tommie Sunshine Remix)”

But that was over a year ago! What has Tommie done for us lately??

Well, this:

Tommie Sunshine - “Dance Among the Ruins”

Its a cool little bouncy dance-rock track set to tantalize dance floors around the country. I thought this was a remix at first (and couldn’t place it) but its not. Its one of a handful of original works on his newest cd: Ultra Records-Ultra Rock Remixed!. Its a 2-disc set of both his remixes and original production work And guess what?

You can win a copy from us right now! Just simply leave me a comment and then shoot me your mailing address (hacks@resonatormag.com). First 2 comments win. Simple as that.

Remix Friday Week 10 (Dedicated to Exit the Dog)

Exit Wound

I had to bring Wrecks the Dog* in for surgery on Weds, and to honor him I wanted to post up some real Rex the Dog remixes. I realize we here at Resonator have already posted a lot of them at one point or another, but with our server switch in February (amongst other reasons) we lost all our old archive of mp3s. So here are a few of classic ones for your re-listening pleasure:

Classic mix of heartbeats; only topped by the live BBC mix that The Knife themselves did.

The Knife - Heartbeats (Rex The Dog Remix).mp3

Poptronica? Nice little remix taking the pop sound of The Sounds and then adding the classic Rex the Dog twist to it. I love this remix, though I think you have to not hate The Sounds to enjoy this.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The Sounds - Tony the Beat (Rex The Dog Mix)

Used in my ZOMG Deejay Mix (I’ve got another in the works, I promise I’ll stop plugging this one) –its pretty stellar.

The Prodigy - Girls (Rex The Dog Remix).

And now, for something newer:

Walter Meego - Through a Keyhole (Solid Groove & Sinden mix)

Solid Groove being another moniker of our man Switch , and Walter Meego being a cool trio from Chicago. I first heard the original of this a long while ago, and was totally in love with the silky smooth synths and the uniqueness of their vocal timbre. This remix takes the lushness of the original and mashes it together with a raw and gritty sound that I’m a fan of.

*His real name is Exit, but he was dubbed that since he enjoys trying to jump on my mixer while mixing, causing more than a few train wrecks.

Shits and Wiggles its Switch!

So yeah, Switch (aka Dave Taylor) is kinda the man.

Dave Taylor aka Switch

I’m going to give you 3 rock solid remixes he’s done lately. These are all more hard glitch more techno flavoured, with none of the dance-rock nicities a of my posts have (If you couldn’t tell, I love me some bangers).

Freeform Five - No More Conversations (Switch Remix)

There have been quite a few “No More Conversations” remixes that have come around (with the original being quite good as well) but Switch’s is by far the hardest of them. Starting out all innocent and playful, it falls into speaker distorting grime loops of.. steel? (wanted to say of flurry, but I think The Chemical Brothers beat me to that).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

P Diddy ft Christina Aguilera - Tell Me (Switch_Remix)

I first heard this in a 25min set he did for radio1 and instantly fell in love with it. He takes all the best of the original and then adds in his awesome ability to completely chop, screw and dismantle a track. This is seriously just sick.. I don’t have any better way of describing it.

The Black Ghosts - Face (Switch-remix).mp3

I used this to help open my ZOMG Deejay Mix (yes, i’m STILL plugging it) and love it then, and still do now. Its got an almost tribal house sound to it, but then keeps up with the harder-edge basslines. Very nice if you haven’t heard it yet.
