Remix Week 15: Musings and Music

Hot Chip - Eating Records

Hot Chip played here in Atlanta on Monday and was one of the most amazing lives shows I’ve seen in some time. Not only did they make their old stuff dance able (I really dis-liked Coming on Strong in its cd form) but they played some new tracks and everything from The Warning was re-edited for a live audience. “Over and Over” was turned into this dance floor stormer with a throw back trance build up and nasty grungy bassline to die for. Special thanks to Emory Radio for somehow managing to bring them to Atlanta. They’re also releasing a DJ Kicks soon as well –that should be spectacular.

Also, I’ve been thinking for a month that people should start playing out tracks from Aphrodite’s Urban Jungle. I mean everyone I know has been on this turning-hip-hop-tracks into-house-tracks kick and well, that cd was the first time I’d heard that en-mass. Everything is being brought back, so why not?

And while I’m at it, I’m going to bring back Azzido Da Bass’ “Doom’s Night” for shits and wiggles. I pulled the vinyl out of my crates randomly and made the executive decision that it needs a come back.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Azzido Da Bass - “Dooms Night (Stanton Warriors Remix)”

He’s still around, if anyone is curious. He had his “Lonely By Your Side” released on Kitsune Maison’s Compilation 2.

Thanks to the new iHeartComix Blog, we’ve got a Flosstradamus remix of Mat and Kim’s “Yeah Yeah”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Matt and Kim - “Yeah Yeah (Flosstradamus Remix)”

I’m really digging all the throw back rave references they put into all their remixes (no shit hacks, really?!?!). Layering the “Where’s Your Head At?” synth line under the whole track totally does it for me.

Here’s the direct zShare link.

Troniks sent us a fun little mashup/remix. Its sure to get the kids dancing in that “we’re not quite drunk enough to let ourselves have fun, but are on our way there with help from the deejay” kinda way.

Troniks - “I Want You To Drop It Like It’s A Hot Strawberry”.

(Sorry no flash player for this one –it doesn’t like the encoding)

Check him out the TronikSpace and give him a shout out.

While we’re at it: here’s a rave mashup of Yo Majesty! (Have I mentioned that we love them?).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Yo Majesty feat. Wolf & Cub - “Club Action (TF’s 1/2ALIVE rave version)”.

Its fun. Trust me.

Thanks again to the excellent column by Palms Out Sounds I’ve got another Chromeo remix to bring you. There are a ton of these floating around, and I think this one is now my favorite. Guns n’ Bombs WTF again.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Chromeo - “Fancy Footwork (Guns n’ Bombs Remix)”.

Lastly, I’ve been informed that I was wrong (it happens). The Riot in Belguim track I posted a while back was incorrectly attributed as a VanShe Tech remix. That’s WRONG!.. Its the final mastered version of the original. My aplogies to The Boys in Riot in Belgium. Regardless “La Musique” may be my favorite track so far this year. Its amazing like whoa!

If you haven’t checked it yet, here is is:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Riot In Belgium - “La Musique”.

And as an added bonus, here’s a killer remix they did of KIM(from the Presets)’s “Wet ‘n’ Wild”.

KIM- “Wet ‘n’ Wild (Riot In Belguim Remix)”

Now, a quick moment of self promotion:
Some friends are putting together an Art Show on May 26th at East Side Lounge here in Atlanta and I’m going to be deejaying both during the event and then on and off through the night as well.

URBAN. An exhibit of city life

I’ll give out some more info once we get a few more things finalized, but I should note it will also coincide with the launch of our new sister site! Formal announcement on that to come a bit later, but rest assured its going to be hot.

Have a good weekend kids, hacks out!

Remix Friday Week 8!

Damn, I’ve been doing this for almost 2 months now and every week I’ve still got more thatI want to post. Anyway, this week I’ve got a few interesting remix to share. I had picked out like 5 or 6 but, as usual, I’m running out of time due to work (yay software development schedules. . .)

First off, another fantastic remix from Van She Tech:
Riot In Belgium - La Musique(Van She Tech Remix)

I was informed this is NOT a vanshe tech remix. Check out the update here

The original (linked below) is a synthy rumbling dance floor driven track that stands up well enough on its own. The lyrics overriding the chorus help drive this into a arms-pumping dancefloor anthem. Van She Tech takes all of this, and then ups the ante. Smoothing out some of the constant rumble with a crisp, solid bass beat, it immediately gets your head nodding. From there it’s only more lushness and chopped/screwed vocals –bringing this from dancefloor churner to full-on mass frenzy.

Visit Riot in Belgium on the web:
Unofficial MySpace (has the original of La Musique)
Official MySpace
Bio/Discography

Visit Van She Tech on MySpace if you haven’t yet.

Next up we’ve got a remix that should destroy the amazingness of the original, but yet turns out to be a really solid effort and change of pace.

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye (Curtis Vodka Edit)

Curtis Vodka

You may have remembered our love for Silversun Pickups and, upon first seeing Curtis Vodka had remixed this, I had total mixed thoughts. His normal style is krunk and glitchy; sacrificing pretty for the nasty wamp wamp. I love both Silversun Pickup albums and the almost-drone melodic sound contained within them and had no idea what Curtis would do with it.

Its amazing; I was totally blown away.

That’s what I get for pre-judging someone I guess. Hype Machine has a bunch of Curtis’ other remixes if you want to check him out in some more detail. I’m actually a fan of most of his remixes, so if you’re bored on this Friday, dig around and check some out.

That’s all for me kids. Have work to finish and a house party to prep for and throw.
