Remix Week 15: Musings and Music

Hot Chip - Eating Records

Hot Chip played here in Atlanta on Monday and was one of the most amazing lives shows I’ve seen in some time. Not only did they make their old stuff dance able (I really dis-liked Coming on Strong in its cd form) but they played some new tracks and everything from The Warning was re-edited for a live audience. “Over and Over” was turned into this dance floor stormer with a throw back trance build up and nasty grungy bassline to die for. Special thanks to Emory Radio for somehow managing to bring them to Atlanta. They’re also releasing a DJ Kicks soon as well –that should be spectacular.

Also, I’ve been thinking for a month that people should start playing out tracks from Aphrodite’s Urban Jungle. I mean everyone I know has been on this turning-hip-hop-tracks into-house-tracks kick and well, that cd was the first time I’d heard that en-mass. Everything is being brought back, so why not?

And while I’m at it, I’m going to bring back Azzido Da Bass’ “Doom’s Night” for shits and wiggles. I pulled the vinyl out of my crates randomly and made the executive decision that it needs a come back.

Azzido Da Bass - “Dooms Night (Stanton Warriors Remix)”

He’s still around, if anyone is curious. He had his “Lonely By Your Side” released on Kitsune Maison’s Compilation 2.

Thanks to the new iHeartComix Blog, we’ve got a Flosstradamus remix of Mat and Kim’s “Yeah Yeah”.

Matt and Kim - “Yeah Yeah (Flosstradamus Remix)”

I’m really digging all the throw back rave references they put into all their remixes (no shit hacks, really?!?!). Layering the “Where’s Your Head At?” synth line under the whole track totally does it for me.

Here’s the direct zShare link.

Troniks sent us a fun little mashup/remix. Its sure to get the kids dancing in that “we’re not quite drunk enough to let ourselves have fun, but are on our way there with help from the deejay” kinda way.

Troniks - “I Want You To Drop It Like It’s A Hot Strawberry”.

(Sorry no flash player for this one –it doesn’t like the encoding)

Check him out the TronikSpace and give him a shout out.

While we’re at it: here’s a rave mashup of Yo Majesty! (Have I mentioned that we love them?).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Yo Majesty feat. Wolf & Cub - “Club Action (TF’s 1/2ALIVE rave version)”.

Its fun. Trust me.

Thanks again to the excellent column by Palms Out Sounds I’ve got another Chromeo remix to bring you. There are a ton of these floating around, and I think this one is now my favorite. Guns n’ Bombs WTF again.

Chromeo - “Fancy Footwork (Guns n’ Bombs Remix)”.

Lastly, I’ve been informed that I was wrong (it happens). The Riot in Belguim track I posted a while back was incorrectly attributed as a VanShe Tech remix. That’s WRONG!.. Its the final mastered version of the original. My aplogies to The Boys in Riot in Belgium. Regardless “La Musique” may be my favorite track so far this year. Its amazing like whoa!

If you haven’t checked it yet, here is is:

Riot In Belgium - “La Musique”.

And as an added bonus, here’s a killer remix they did of KIM(from the Presets)’s “Wet ‘n’ Wild”.

Now, a quick moment of self promotion:
Some friends are putting together an Art Show on May 26th at East Side Lounge here in Atlanta and I’m going to be deejaying both during the event and then on and off through the night as well.

URBAN. An exhibit of city life

I’ll give out some more info once we get a few more things finalized, but I should note it will also coincide with the launch of our new sister site! Formal announcement on that to come a bit later, but rest assured its going to be hot.

Have a good weekend kids, hacks out!

The Return of the Weekend

Maybe it was that moment of 70 degree weather 2 weeks ago. The first hint of short sleeves and a subconscious realization kicks in that I’m not going to have to look after my coat or shiver uncontrollably on the walk home, sweat freezing on my untanned skin. The spring hasn’t really come yet, but it’s tickling the back of my mind, and it means that it’s time to get out, get moving, and have a great time.

Ahhh, yes. Spring. When flowers bloom, you start noticing that people are sexually attractive again, and strappy shirts and miniskirts leave a vacancy in the closet for your gigantic coat.

It’s time to go dancing!

Before we talk about this weekend, let’s wrap up last week’s– here are those much promised videos and photos from Patrick Wolf’s successful-even-with-issues cabaret spectacular at MisShapes on Saturday. Thanks to CDK3000 for all the photos and videos (and trusting me when I dragged him out on a cold and awful night to see an artist he’d never heard of):

Sure, it’s blurry… But this photo during “Bloodbeat” captures the whole hazy, hedonistic feeling of the night and how high emotions were running when the whole… problem… occurred.

Now, moving on to THIS weekend. Here’s my to-do list:

Friday:

*Go to work.
*Work on my thesis.
*Go see the Klaxons at my favorite club on earth.

Sure, they playing down the street from my apartment tomorrow, and Studio B is a schlep from here, but I can’t get enough of the place. CDK3000 will be sitting this one out, which means I’m either going to have to suck it up and lug my gigantic camera with me or that there won’t be photos. If you’re in NYC and you miss the Bowery Ballroom show (or you just can’t wait to see them again) come out and join me! I’ll be going nuts to this track:

Totem on the Timeline — The Klaxons

But what about the next day?

Saturday:

*Work on my thesis.
*Go see people making asses of themselves singing karaoke… with Of Montreal.
*Dance to Flosstradamous till I forget I have a thesis.

I know that the plan is that Of Montreal is going to play other artists’ work for karaoke and then do a whole set of their own stuff afterward, but quite frankly, I’d like to be the jerk who requests to do this number off the band’s newest record:

The Past is a Grotesque Animal — Of Montreal

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

And as far as Flosstradamous… I can’t even weigh in on their stuff because I’ve heard it at home and it’s CLEARLY meant to be heard while working it out on a dance floor. But here’s a taste:

Act a Fool Ravestradamous — Flosstradamous

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Sunday:

*Go to work.
*Work on my thesis.
*Be very happy that Studio B exists to alleviate the stress of graduate school.

Some “music with no vocals” lovin’

I’ve been sitting on these tracks for a while now, so I figured I mine as well post them and share the love.

The Bloody Beetroots

These guys bring some serious Italian electro to the table.. like distort your speakers into a mass of polarized magnets and melted tweeters electro. Slick little break beats underneath nice phat hard synth riffs. Put it this way, they are self described as “A Red Beetroot in a washing machine!”, how could you go wrong with that? Its hacks love. They’ve also got a remix of The Whip Trash in the works (or maybe finished –haven’t heard it yet, though)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The Bloody Beetroots - Rotten Pick 2007

Visit The Bloody Beetroots (aka Bobbie & Tommie a.k.a. Bob Rifo & Tea a.k.a. Asterix & Panoramix) on MySpace.

Next up a slick little track from Leopold Gregori. A bit lighter, though still on the electro side of things, its definitely usable in many different deejay sets.

Leopold Gregori - Renaissance.mp3

His tracks all available through all major online music shops, so check him out and/or show some MySpace lovin’

Also, Missingtoof posted up an awesome mix Flosstramdamus did of Kid Sister while I was away this weekend, so go check it out!
