Rusty pipes (when it’s cold I’d like to die)

Lil’ Wayne is a discovery that’s going to make 2007 a banner year for rap…in my head, which is the only place that it really matters. It’s like that time you were totally convinced Jigga was full of crap and then you got your head around the “sycamore trees/more sicker MC” tongue-twist verse of his from The Black Album.

This, then, is one of my favorite Soul-Sought acquisitions of the year, from one of Wayne’s 8 billion mixtapes to be released in 07.

Lil’ Wayne: I Feel Like Dying

Here Wayne, possible-but-not-necessarily-but-since-I-haven’t-listened-to-the-leak-of-American Gangster-yet-so-let’s-keep-all-options-open heir apparent to the throne of Carter senior (no relation) Jay-Z’s mantle of “he TOTALLY just said that, high-five-for-killer-writing” flow-throne, wheezes and forces his love-it-or-hate-it (underdog is, in fact, on top) rhythmic rasp like a verbal gangbang, taking each nuanced, drowsy droplet of bassbeat and plip-plopping into a pile of liquids and powders, solid pills and razorblades, swimming through his party mix of uppers, downers and candy corn, at times drifting off to sleep, waking up with a start and resuming the day’s lesson (Independent RoboTrip Study) in the exact place he left off.

No need to worry about indie assimilation of Wayne, it would seem-this is Alconarcotic Space Hop that’s way too bright in its’ muted maroon and crystal-white for those venetian shades to be effective.

Man I cannot even describe what that track just did to my head. That is most definitely going into immediate heavy rotation in my house.
