Microfilm is a 2 piece outfit hailing from Chicago and seems hell bent on twisting your subconscious into betraying dirty thoughts with thriving beeps, hypnotic rhythms and crunchy bass lines. Their music is twinged with hints of throwback rave, while keeping the composition fresh and progressive (not house). For example, “After Dark” is something I would expect to hear at 4am, when the music is just getting warmed up, and when a little bit of electro-infused bass will turn a sweaty crowd into a hedonistic mass of pulsating bodies.

They’ve also got an awesome remix/cover of - appropriately enough - Sufjan’s “Chicago” up on their myspace player, and is worth every second of you clicking over to their page and giving it a listen.
Additionally, Matthew “I put the film in Microfilm” Mercer* has two EPs set to drop… NOW (well this past weekend) and from what I’ve heard, they’re proving to be more lush than the Microfilm production. The track I’ve got here, “Simon Says”, is a super lush piece that is both chilling and haunting at the same time –kinda like a kiss from a rose on the dark side of the moon.

You can purchase their 2CD set ‘After Dark/Blueprints’ via their website, through iTunes or pretty much anywhere your like to purchase your digital music.
Listen and enjoy. If these melodies aren’t a way to start out your day, then I don’t know what is.
