So yeah, internet radio is about to take a huge royalty increase of 300 to 1200 percent. While this won’t really matter for traditional stations, things like streaming college radio, pandora and everything else will be affected. Most of these services run for the sake of music itself, and aren’t out there to make a huge profit, yet come July 15th, our wonderful goverenment and record labels are about to kill off tons of web radio stations.
The CRB rates are retroactive to January 1, 2006 and payable on July 15, 2007. This decision could bankrupt many Internet radio services immediately on that date, even if it is effective for only one day.
Have no idea what I’m talking about? Spend 5 minutes reading and get informed..
It may be too late to stave off the upcoming July 15th inception date (NPR fronted an appeal requests which was denied) but there still tons of people out there fighting it.
If nothing else, be informed.
